今天弋果新鮮事要討論的主題是: 美式英文跟英式英文。Today's we're discussing the differences between British English and American English. We'll focus on what the differences are—different words for the same thing, different accents and if anything, which one is better? 美式跟英式的口音並沒有哪一種比較好，而是要看個人的習慣與喜好。另外就像中文一般，台灣的中文跟大陸的中文雖然是一樣的語言，都是普通話，但是我們的發音，語法，用詞，都不太一樣。美國跟英國的英文也是如此。所以今天也要來探討哪一些單字是不一樣的。

autumn - autumn, fall 秋天
biscuit - cookie 餅乾
block of flats - apartment building 公寓
bonnet (car) - hood 汽車的車蓋
boot - trunk 後車廂
chips – fries, French fries 薯條
bar- pub 酒吧
bathroom - lavatory/loo 廁所
bucks (sl. dollars) - quid (sl. pounds) 元
elevator - lift 電梯
flashlight - torch 手電筒（在美國torch的意思是火炬）
gasoline (or gas) - petrol 汽油
garbage dump - rubbish tip 垃圾山
mom (mother)- mum 媽媽
movie theater - cinema 電影院
pants - trousers 褲子
pal (sl. friend) - chap, mate 朋友
trailer - caravan 汽車拖得居住車
vacation - holiday 假期
Soccer - Football 足球
Hockey - Ice-hockey 曲棍球

兩個拼法都可以，一個是美式拼法，一個是英式拼法。英文有很多單字都有分美式跟英式拼法，通常英式拼法會加一個‘u’在裏面。
