Eagle Unites Thousands of Teachers and Students Across Taiwan to Protect the Ocean Together
United Nations data reveals that over ten million tons of plastic waste enter the ocean annually. At this rate, the ocean could contain more plastic than fish by 2050. Marking its 25th anniversary, Eagle Global Education Group recently launched the "Eagle Sustainable Beach Clean Up" at Hsinchu’s Nanliao coastline to address the gradual destruction of Taiwan’s marine resources. One hundred volunteers from the headquarters led the charge, clearing nearly 1.5 metric tons of waste. This initiative now passes to branches across Taiwan, uniting communities from north to south to protect the ecosystem and create a better home for future generations.
“How can we truly understand how precious our environment is without experiencing it firsthand?” Despite temperatures of around 10°C and strong sea winds, nearly 100 Eagle volunteers, including employees and their families, put on gloves and carried burlap sacks as they cleaned up nearly one kilometer of the Nanliao coastline in Hsinchu. They picked up trash along the beach and worked hard to remove waste trapped between rocks.
Among the volunteers were many young children still in school. The youngest volunteer was only three years old. Annie, a kindergarten student, was especially focused as she collected trash. Although she was covered in mud, she smiled proudly throughout the cleanup. She shared that she loves the blue ocean, so joining the beach cleanup did not feel tiring at all. She simply hoped to help keep the ocean clean and beautiful.
The debris scattered along the Nanliao coast included a vast range of materials. While PET bottles were common, discarded fishing nets and ropes made up much of the marine debris. Volunteer Emily Chen, who attended with her two children, noted the difficulty of imagining such a beautiful blue ocean being overwhelmed by trash. She emphasized that if not cleaned up promptly, future generations might no longer have the chance to see a beautiful beach.
Chairwoman Stephanie Sun stated that sustainability and education are deeply connected. As a leader in sustainable education, Eagle commemorated its 25th anniversary through a partnership with Project Blue 1095 and the Hsinchu North Cross International Education Foundation. This collaboration empowers Eagle students, parents, and teachers across Taiwan to explore environmental sustainability through direct participation. Eagle believes that turning ideals into action is the best way to affirm what kids have learned.
To pass on the spirit of sustainability education, Eagle is launching two major initiatives this year: the "Eagle Sustainable Love and Beach Clean Up" and the "Eagle Sustainable Love and Performing Arts Festival." These activities encourage students to engage with the world while echoing UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water. By preventing waste from entering the sea, the program encourages greater environmental awareness to restore the beauty of Taiwan’s coastline.
The morning session resulted in the collection of 1,485 kilograms of trash. Stephanie emphasized that this action serves as a starting point, with plans to mobilize all 80 branches nationwide. This collective effort is expected to remove significantly more marine debris in the coming months.
Eagle Global Education Group integrates sustainable values into its educational approach, striving to embed the true spirit of sustainability into every aspect of education. Today, Eagle headquarters launched the first stop of a nationwide initiative, gathering collective strength to safeguard the ocean. This initiative creates a cycle of positive impact, fostering a mutually beneficial outcome of environmental restoration, individual well-being, and corporate sustainability.
