Young Explorers Discover Rare T. Rex

Three young explorers, Jessin and Liam Fisher, and their cousin Kaiden Madsen, found a rare young T. rex fossil while looking for fossils in North Dakota. They went fossil hiking with their dad, Sam Fisher. This exciting find was shown at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in a special exhibit called "Discovering Teen Rex."

The fossil was in a huge rock and took 11 days to dig out. It included the dinosaur’s legs, hips, and most of its skull. Dr. Tyler Lyson, a scientist at the museum, discovered it was from a T. rex. This young T. rex was about 25 feet long and 10 feet tall, weighing around 3,500 pounds. It was about two-thirds the size of an adult T. rex and died 67 million years ago.

It’s a significant moment for science as only a handful of juvenile T. rex skeletons have ever been found. Dr. Lyson said this find is important because young T. rex fossils are very rare and can teach us how these dinosaurs grew.

The "Discovering Teen Rex" exhibit will help kids learn about dinosaurs and science. It shows different dinosaur fossils and has a lab where visitors can see how fossils are prepared. Dr. Lyson hopes this exhibit will inspire kids to explore and learn more about the natural world.
